The Matt Pike Signature Masochist transforms suffering into sonic power, delivering tones crafted for those who demand more from their sound. Its circuits wield distinct pain: “Adverto” focuses on midrange precision, while “Ecce” unlocks overwhelming, crushing force. Combined, they offer a journey through suffering toward unparalleled sonic mastery.
‘Adverto’: The Modified Harmonic Energizer
The Adverto circuit isn’t just an overdrive—it’s a scalpel of sound. Based on the vintage Harmonic Energizer, this circuit is designed to hone in on Matt Pike’s signature midrange tones, delivering the snarling, focused frequencies that define his riffs in High on Fire and Sleep. The midrange aggression is the key—gnarly and cutting, it ensures that your tone won’t just sit in the mix, but will slice through it with merciless precision. This circuit is where pain becomes focus. Every control reflects the brutal intent behind this design: Saw, Whip, Gag, and Hack.
- Saw (Frequency): This control lets you saw through the frequency spectrum, dialing in the perfect midrange cut. Aim lower for deep, throbbing resonance, or push higher for ear-splitting aggression. The sweet spot lies in the midrange—the snarling, biting tones that form the core of Pike’s sound—where the riff commands attention, forcing everything else aside.
- Whip (Bandwidth): Tighten or loosen the frequency focus with Whip. Narrow the bandwidth for a sharp, piercing attack—like the crack of a whip—or widen it for a broader, bruising assault that spreads the pain across your tone. The tighter the whip, the deeper it cuts.
- Gag (Volume): Gag controls how much of this brutal frequency assault you unleash. Keep it dialed down to create tension, or crank it to flood your signal chain with overwhelming force, suffocating everything else in the mix.
- Hack (Gain): This is where the real pain begins. Hack drives the circuit into gritty, saturated overdrive, forcing every frequency to grind and bite. The harder you push, the nastier it becomes—the sound of an amp driven to the breaking point, wailing in agony. The more you hack, the more it bleeds.
The Adverto circuit is all about midrange mastery—where the riff reigns supreme. Whether you use it to sharpen your leads or to grind out gnarly rhythm tones, it delivers the signature mid-forward aggression that makes Matt Pike’s playing instantly recognizable. Engage Adverto, and your signal will cut through the heaviest of mixes, leaving everything else gasping in its wake.
‘Ecce’: The Modified Sonic Titan
Ecce is the roar of devastation made manifest—a reimagined version of Matt’s personal DAM Sonic Titan, crafted to deliver massive, bone-rattling force. While its original circuit reveled in unrelenting doom, this version adds new layers of control over the chaos. Like a weight too heavy to lift, Ecce bears down on every note, but with the right touch, it can also be honed into a focused, articulate weapon.
- Bass/Treble Baxandall EQ: The Titan’s original blunt tone control has evolved into a two-band Baxandall EQ, allowing you to sculpt your tone with precision. Shape the bass to unleash seismic lows, or rein them in for a tighter punch. Adjust the treble to either pierce through the fog or create a high-end growl with just the right amount of snarl.
- Volume: Controls overall output level. Increase for a stronger, fuller signal; decrease for more restrained volume.
- Drive: Sets the amount of gain and distortion. Lower for subtle grit; higher for saturated, crushing distortion.
- Depth Toggle: Dictates the weight of the low end at the input stage:
-
- Left: Fullest—unleashes unrestrained power, shaking foundations with each note.
- Middle: Tightest—restrained and controlled, like a clenched fist ready to strike.
- Right: Balanced—a grounded low end, steady and relentless.
- Cut Toggle: Carves the low end in the power boost stage:
- Left: Balanced—a full-bodied bass, harnessed yet brutal, powerful enough to dominate without overwhelming.
- Middle: Precise and cutting—sharp, refined power that punishes with clarity.
- Right: Deep and consuming—a low end that suffocates, flooding everything in its path.
Engage Ecce and behold the crushing weight of each note. It’s a circuit designed to overwhelm, suffocate, and dominate—a sonic sledgehammer that leaves everything in its path flattened.
When both circuits are engaged, Adverto drives Ecce, sharpening the raw power of Ecce’s crushing low end with Adverto’s focused, cutting intensity.

This is all that it claims to be. The whole right side here, I don’t think I have had a pedal that does so much with the Saw and Whip knobs. They are so responsive and the tones just take a life of its own. It’s something I can’t really describe, but it’s just insanely fun and addictive to twist these knobs! Another home run for the Does it Doom crew. Thank you and keep them coming!!!

The Masochist is my new go to distortion when it comes to doom. It brings the perfect amount of low end while still remaining tightness. The Distortion side itself is very fat sounding and can be tweaked to make this side alone very powerful. The Filter side is in my opinion the “secret sauce” here, it gives your signal the right mid push and even more gain to make this pedal saturated like hell.
If you’re looking for the modern High on Fire or Sleep sounds, this is definitely what you’re looking for!

The masochist is an awesome distortion pedal with a great filter/cocked wah side. Has a lot of tonal options and can use the ecce and adverto together or separately which is a great option. And it works incredibly well with the Baghdad pedal as well. Really good construction and artwork as well. Worth every penny. Definitely 5 stars. Great job does it doom team. 🤘🏻

Just a good pedal all around . The Ecce side really does it for me . I can see a lot of time was put into developing this pedal . Another solid release from the crew .

The encroachment of darkness, the stomach of Telos gurgling at the behest of the Masochist. The only way to tame such a foul creature ? Self flagellation. I dare you to try and tame this great architect of Distortion. This thing is a monster, being able to not only crush my enemies to death but do it whilst I swing around like a lunatic with a chainsaw is just an absolute pleasure. 5 gold stars the man downstairs!!! With all his whips and chains……..

this is favorite pedal ever! the tonal frequencies and variation of configurations of this Beast are ridiculous. I thought the Baghdad was amazing this thing is damn near retarded it’s almost like you don’t need anything else but an app to plug it into. the saw feature on here is so intricate in its voicing you can get any tone you want. well worth the purchase

The DAM Sonic Titan side of the pedal is an absolute beast! I dialed it in within seconds and achieved a heavenly tone. I’ll be using it at home with my Minimat, in the studio with my bands Space Witch and Hand of Omega, and live with them on stage using Matamp GT120 MV, GT1, and Series 3000 amps.
The pedal’s layout is simple and intuitive, providing immediate access to Sleep and High on Fire tones. The Sonic Titan is one of my favorite pedals, and I regret selling mine a few years back Jon of Conan! This pedal replaces it effortlessly and offers even more features.

If tone had a doomsday device, the Masochist would be its launch code. This pedal is a nuclear bomb, detonating with ear-blowing, face-melting, and ground-shaking intensity that leaves a radioactive crater where your sound once stood. Engage both circuits, and it’s like flipping the red switch—an all-out sonic warhead. It’s a mushroom cloud of distortion and power, reserved only for those reckless enough to wield it. 5 stars for the fallout alone!

This pedal is absolutely filthy. The “Ecce” switch has fat, thick and heavy distortion with a low end that absolutely rips. The “Adverto” side cuts crisp through the mix by adding an extra edge, making the tone more crisp and piercing. This pedal is wildly versatile, perfect for Doom and anything metal.
